Halifax – Claim Back PPI

Let us make sure that your claim against Halifax is one of the success stories.

Now operating as a trading division of Bank of Scotland, which is in turn owned by Lloyds Banking Group, Halifax has made a long and eventful journey to its current position.

It was founded in 1853, in the town of Halifax, West Yorkshire and was one of the shining examples of the pioneering Victorian financial model of the mutual society. The mutual society grew up alongside the co-operative, another Victorian innovation which pursued an alternative model to the prevailing capitalist one. A mutual society existed to raise funds from its membership in order to provide benefits for all its members.

As a mutual – or building society – the Halifax had no shareholders, and was not compelled to maximize profits and share value at the expense of any other concerns. In that sense it was a branch of the well-known Victorian concept of philanthropy.

By the early 20th Century the Halifax was the biggest building society in the UK but eventually, as it happened with almost every mutual in the country, it was demutualized and became a public limited company in 1997. To all intents and purposes it was now simply another share-holder bank.
